Game backend without servers or maintenance

GamePush Backend

Ready-made game mechanics, cloud saves, payments, analytics and multiplayer through a single API. Focus on the game, not infrastructure.

Problem

Game infrastructure is more than a server

To launch a game, writing game code is not enough. You need to build and maintain a full server platform. That takes time and resources.

I have been developing games for Google Play and the App Store since 2009. One day I found a Construct plugin that connected to the Yandex SDK through GamePush to deploy games on the web. I became interested in learning the web platform and bringing over one of my popular projects. It launched in 2022, and GamePush also made distribution to many other platforms possible, including OK, VK, Pikabu Games, and many more. Thank you to Sergey and his large team for this wonderful service. When you build a game from scratch, it is incredibly convenient to connect purchases, ads, leaderboards, achievements, chats, rewards, and much more. It is an indispensable service for game developers. I use the backend to its full extent. I like not having to build chats, achievements, leaderboards, and everything else from scratch. You can even organize tournaments, although there is no direct feature yet and you have to customize them yourself. A separate tournaments section would be great. I also like how much the service has improved since the early releases. It used to offer only purchases, ads, leaderboards, and achievements; now it has roughly five times as many features.

I have been using GamePush since 2021, so this year makes it five years. My story with the service began in an interesting way: there was no ready-made Unity plugin at first, so Sergey Yeponeshnikov and I started building one together. That makes me the author of the first Unity plugin as well. Today I actively use both the SDK and distribution. My games have already been published on many platforms, and over time I would like to reach almost every platform available through distribution. I currently use more than half of the SDK’s features and gradually add the rest to my games. I think I will eventually use around 80–90% of everything it offers. What I probably value most is being able to work with many platforms through a single SDK. You do not need to implement ads, payments, authentication, and other systems separately for every platform. You configure everything in the game once and can largely stop thinking about the differences between platforms. The server side is another major advantage for me. Without a ready-made solution, I would have to run my own servers, configure infrastructure, and maintain the entire backend separately. GamePush covers most of those tasks out of the box, and at this stage it fully meets my needs. It makes development much easier and lets me avoid spending time on things unrelated to the game itself. Distribution helps enormously too. Legal restrictions would prevent me from reaching some platforms on my own, yet several of them have generated very good additional revenue. It also removes a huge amount of routine work: I do not have to study every platform’s rules, go through every publishing step separately, or keep dozens of requirements in mind. I enter the game information once, then mostly focus on the game and update the builds. I would also like to mention the people. The support is excellent, but I genuinely like the team itself. Everyone I have spoken to over the years has been open, kind, and pleasant. I especially remember watching them prepare for GP Conf. Boris posted videos and photos from meetings and preparations, and everything felt lively and full of atmosphere. At one point I wanted to be part of it and build something with them. I even came fairly close to joining the team, but ultimately chose to develop my own direction. Over time, I would love to build the same atmosphere, unity, and team of people who truly enjoy their work in my own company. In short, reaching different platforms used to mean integrating their SDKs yourself, studying each platform’s requirements, dealing with moderation, running your own server side, and solving many other technical tasks. A significant part of that is no longer my headache, so I can devote more time to the games themselves.

I have been using GamePush since 2023. I mainly use player data storage, leaderboards, the file system, and achievements. I have also used distribution to release a game on CrazyGames and other platforms through GamePush. Overall, I am very happy with the service: everything is convenient, and a great deal of useful functionality is available out of the box.

I have been using the GamePush SDK and distribution for about two years. During that time I have not encountered any critical problems, and whenever questions came up, the team always responded quickly and found a solution. I rarely use a ready-made backend because I prefer to build the core systems myself, retain full control, and reuse them in other projects. Even so, GamePush includes a huge number of genuinely useful ready-made solutions: leaderboards, achievements, rewards, cloud saves, and much more. They are easy to integrate and save you from implementing basic functionality, while the backend itself is very affordable, which is a major advantage. The biggest benefit for me is having all the required functionality in one SDK. I built my own Unity Package with a custom loader plus advertising, audio, purchasing, and other systems layered on top of GamePush. As a result, connecting a new project takes only a few minutes instead of the hours or days it used to require. For me, distribution is primarily about convenience. It has made receiving payments in Russia much easier and removed many organizational concerns. The GamePush team handles all of that work, allowing developers to focus on their games instead of paperwork. Overall, GamePush has greatly simplified the development and publishing of my projects. I do not have to worry about integrating different SDKs, payments, or technical details because everything is already well organized. Thank you to the entire team for your work. I wish the company continued growth and success!
